Environmental Commitment
We believe good stewardship of the environment is an important component of our responsibilities as a corporate citizen. Accordingly, we align with manufacturers that provide environmentally friendly products and environmentally sensitive manufacturing practices. Steelcase has long been an environmental leader, with more Cradle to Cradle™ (C2C) certified products than any manufacturer in any industry. C2C design protocol outlines environmentally-intelligent design criteria and is an important sustainability benchmark introduced in 2005 by McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry.
We also offer pre-owned furniture solutions and furniture disposition services because we are committed to keeping furniture out of landfills by finding new homes for it or recycling it.
As members of the U.S. Green Building Council, we subscribe to the mission of “transforming the way buildings and communities are designed, built, and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life.”
Within our own operations, we are implementing environmentally sensitive practices, committing to reduce-reuse-recycle whenever possible. In addition to recycling packaging material within our warehousing operations, we have replaced disposable plates, cups, and flatware in our lunchroom with reusable or compostable alternatives, replaced bottled water with filtered water taps, and provided recycling waste bins at every workstation. Focusing on recycling in the past quarter has generated more than 20,000 pounds of recycled materials.
